Outreach and Educational Initiatives
The Office of Student Conduct believes it is important to take a proactive approach to educate Penn State students about the Code of Conduct and the Discipline Process. This is accomplished thorugh a variety of programs and initiatives. Articles regulary appear in the weekly residence hall newsletter, "Stall Stories," as well as in the International Student Services Newsletter, "The Globe." These articles focus on a specific topic, policy, or timely issue.
We have created the following programs which we present to classes. We would be more than willing to work with faculty members, staff members, or student organizations to create a program tailored to address specific issues or concerns.
- Know the Code: An introduction to the Student Code of Conduct, the University Discipline System, and the Penn State Principles. Facilitators demystify the campus discipline process and clarify student rights and responsibilities. At the end of the presentation, students are be encouraged to visit the Office of Student Conduct Website and complete the online "Know the Code" Survey.
- Academic Integrity & Ethical Decision Making: An interactive program addressing academic integrity, ethical decision making, and values clarification. Facilitators incorporate theory to practice through case studies, individual exercises, and group exercises.
- Sexual Misconduct: Office of Student Conduct, in collaboration with other university departments and outside agencies, address the University's policies, procedures, and protocols for responding to incidents of alleged sexual misconduct.
- "Know the Code" Quiz: Our newest initiative is the "Know the Code" online quiz. The quiz contains 14 true-false questions designed to test students' knowledge of the Code of Conduct, as well as encourage them to learn more about what is expected of them. Those who complete the quiz can enter into a prize drawing which occurs each semester.
