Clinical services at UHS include same-day medical care for urgent problems, preventive health visits, testing, immunization, care for pre-existing conditions and physical exams. If you require more specialized care, your clinician may refer you to a specialist in the local community for further evaluation and treatment.
UHS provides a number of volunteer opportunities for students. One of these is the clinic volunteer program. Clinic volunteers are trained to help with patient intake (taking blood pressure, etc.) and receive privacy training. However, if you do not wish to have a student involved in your intake, simply alert the UHS staff.
Locations and Hours
Clinical Services is located on the third and fourth floors of the Student Health Center (adjacent to the Eisenhower Parking Deck and the Bank of America Career Services Building off Bigler Road).
Care When You're Sick or Injured
UHS provides convenient, confidential and compassionate care for routine illnesses such as sore throats and more serious problems such as high fevers and acute asthma attacks.
Almost 20% of incoming students have a pre-existing medical problem such as asthma, allergies, or headaches, and many are on prescription medications. If you have an ongoing medical problem, we urge you to make an appointment before you are sick so that you can establish a relationship with a UHS clinician.
Routine physical exams are available for your own well-being or for sports, employment, or a driver’s license.
Women’s Health visits may include routine physical exams and pap smears, contraceptive services (including emergency contraception), STI testing and evaluation of gynecological symptoms.
Men’s Health visits may include testing for STIs, learning how to perform testicular self-exams, and discussing contraception choices and risky health behaviors.
Allergy services include allergy injections ordered by your allergy specialist. Allergy serums are refrigerated at our Allergy Clinic. Immunizations include tetanus, hepatitis B, flu, and meningitis vaccines.
Pre-travel information and consultation is provided to international travelers, and is also available to Penn State faculty and staff.
