The UHS University Ambulance Service (UAS) is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and is staffed by a well trained and experienced emergency staff. UAS employs a full time Emergency Medical Services (EMS) manager, an instructor/EMS supervisor, an EMS supervisor, approximately 30 students as part-time Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), additional EMTs and EMT-Ps for special events, and approximately 12 to 20 volunteer EMTs in the training program.
The service provides Advanced Life Support level services at special events under medical command of an emergency physician from the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. EMS also provides numerous training programs for students interested in becoming EMTs.
UAS responds to approximately 1200 ambulance calls per year on the University Park campus including any calls dispatched for medical emergencies on campus or to assist other EMS agencies off campus. Though students are our main customers, we routinely respond to requests from employees, visitors, and event and conference attendees.
Location and Hours
EMS staff offices are located on the first floor of the Student Health Center. The University Ambulance Service responds to medical emergencies on campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week--except during the University's winter break. The dates for the 2010 winter break are Thursday, December, 23 through Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011.
Please note: all ambulance, hospital emergency room and inpatient fees are the patient's responsibility.
There is a charge for ambulance services. University Health Services will submit the bill to your insurance company. If UHS does not have your insurance information on file, please contact them immediately.
