Overview

At University Health Services, we have an onsite COLA (Commission on Laboratory Accreditation) accredited, CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) approved laboratory that is available to all registered students. Commonly ordered tests, such as complete blood count and urinalysis, are performed in the UHS lab. A reference lab (Quest Diagnostics) is also used for less commonly ordered tests.

UHS medical technologists are certified by the ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists). A board certified pathologist serves as the medical director for laboratory operations.

Location and Hours

The lab is located at 407 Student Health Center. Bring a lab order from your clinician to the reception desk. No appointment is necessary for general lab requests; however, if you are bringing a lab order from a non-UHS clinician, please report to the lab before 4 pm. Please call 814-865-6212 if you have any questions.

The hours of service are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Your lab order must include the following information: patient name and date of birth, ordering providerís name, address, NPI number, phone, and fax, providerís signature, test orders and diagnosis codes.

Pre-employment urine drug screen collections are available at the UHS lab. You must bring either a chain of custody form from Quest or Labcorp, or a document from the requesting employer including company name and address, contact person, phone and fax number and drug screen panel. You will also need a photo ID and be prepared to give a urine sample.

Fees

The basic clinic visit fee does not include the costs of laboratory services. There are separate fees for all lab services. The fee depends upon the lab study ordered by your clinician. UHS accepts insurance for laboratory services. (see billing for more info) Students MUST notify the lab reception desk before samples are collected if they wish to send their testing to Quest or Labcorp for insurance purposes.

Self-testing option:

UHS offers a self-test for STI screening of gonorrhea and chlamydia. No appointment needed; just present to the lab reception desk between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. M, T, Th and F or 9 a.m. Ė 4 p.m. on Wed. The cost is $30.
