HealthWorks is a peer education outreach program dedicated to serving the Penn State community by educating students about wellness including nutrition; sexual health; and alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues. HealthWorks peer educators develop and implement health-based initiatives aimed at improving the health of Penn State students.

HealthWorks peer educators are trained during the fall semester through enrollment in a 3-credit course that covers theory, strategy, leadership and health information.

In addition to other HealthWorks activities, peer educators have the opportunity to become HIV test counselors. In addition to the HealthWorks training, HIV test counselors are required to complete a 3-day Pennsylvania Department of Health training workshop, “Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling.”

To apply to be a HealthWorks peer educator, please visit the HealthWorks website. Applications are accepted in the spring for course enrollment the following fall.
