What is LeaderShape?

The Penn State LeaderShape Institute is designed to provide undergraduate students at University Park the opportunity to create meaningful interactions with their peers. This six-day intensive, interactive, dynamic, and exciting leadership development experience challenges participants to "lead with integrity" Student participants will gain a comprehensive understanding that leadership development is a life-long journey.

When is LeaderShape held?

LeaderShape is held the second week of May (Senior week for 2011 and the week after graduation for 2012 and beyond).

Is LeaderShape held on campus?

Due to the complexity of the Leadership Institute it is held at the Camp Blue Diamond.

How much does LeaderShape cost?

The individual program costs average about $1500 per student. However due to the generosity of several campus sponsors (the Office of Residence Life, the Division of Student Affairs, the Greek Councils and the University Park Allocation Committee - UPAC) the total out-of-pocket cost per student is $100.00. That includes transportation to and from the Hartman Center, lodging, all meals, snacks, Institute materials, and a T-shirt).

How are participants selected?

Interested students are required to fill out an application (online only). Applications are available on this website beginning February 1 and are due the last Friday of February. All applications are reviewed by the LeaderShape Planning Committee. (The committee is made up of past LeaderShape participants and facilitators.)

Can I participate every year?

No, participating in the LeaderShape Institute is a once in-a-lifetime opportunity. However, after successful completion of the Institute there is an opportunity to serve on the planning committee for the upcoming year.

Where do I stay between the residence halls closing and the first day of LeaderShape?

Thanks to the generosity and on-going support from the Office of Residence Life students selected to participate in LeaderShape who currently have an on-campus housing contract can stay the extra night in a residence hall at no charge. The accommodations may not be in your current room but housing will be provided.

Residence Life will also provide minimal storage space for electronics and others items that will be needed upon the conclusion of LeaderShape. Students selected to participate in LeaderShape are encouraged to make arrangements s to get most of their belonging home before the start of LeaderShape.

Where do I park my car the week of LeaderShape?

If you currently have a parking permit for on-campus it is typically good until after graduation weekend. Otherwise you can contact the parking office and purchase a permit for the week.
