Mission
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Ally (LGBTA) Student Resource Center provides a comprehensive range of education, information, and advocacy services. We work to create and maintain an open, safe, and inclusive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students at The Pennsylvania State University.
Vision
We work to eliminate homophobia and heterosexism at The Pennsylvania State University so that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students and their allies have equity in every respect and are included in all areas of the Penn State Community.
Values
- Provide a welcoming, safe, and confidential space for students within the LGBTA Student Resource Center (101 Boucke Building)
- Advocate for institutional policy changes and program development that recognize the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals
- Demonstrate a commitment to social justice issues through collaboration with other historically marginalized populations on campus
- Maintain communication and collaborate with campus LGBTA student and staff organizations, alumni associations, and academic programs
Goals
- Provide educational events and programming on sexual and gender identity
- Provide resources in the form of library materials, study space, updated internet resources, list-serves, newsletters, and knowledgeable staff
- Coordinate and offer the Straight Talks Peer Education course for credits in the Bio-Behavioral Health department (Straight Talks I: Advanced Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity Peer Education)
- Coordinate with and provide support to units and departments serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and ally communities at The Pennsylvania State University
- Provide educational programming and resource information to Penn State's Commonwealth locations
- Refer students to organizations, services, and agencies on campus and in the surrounding communities that support the needs of LGBTA individuals
- Make The Pennsylvania State University one of the top choices for LGBTA students nationally
