About Us

NCOD at Old Main Straight Talk classroom discussion

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Ally (LGBTQA) Student Resource Center provides a comprehensive range of programming, education, information, and advocacy services. We work to create and maintain an open, safe, and inclusive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, and queer students at Penn State University. We work to eliminate homophobia and heterosexism at Penn State so that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, and queer students and their allies have equity in every respect and are included in all areas of our community. We hope that by reviewing our resources, YOU can be a resource to a friend and to your community. Understanding these issues and how to provide appropriate support to the LGBTQA community is valuable to everyone.

The LGBTQA Student Resource Center first opened its doors on January 31st, 1994. The initiative was the result of a recommendation made by the Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Equity. The office was originally housed in Educational Equity and currently is a unit of Student Affairs. In November of 2001 the University Park campus hired a the first full time director to provide even further resources for students and campus communities in the areas of programming, advising, outreach and education. The center provides direct services to students as well as staff, faculty, alumni and community members.
