Scholarships

The LGBTQA Student Resource Center offers LGBTQ students attending Penn State financial assistance through three scholarship programs.

The 2015 LGBTA AIG Scholarship recipient is: John Allegro

The LGBTA Alumni Interest Group Scholarship

 

Purpose:

To honor and recognize contributions to the lesbian, gay, bisexual , transgender, and queer community achieved by an undergraduate or graduate student who is enrolled at the Pennsylvania State University.

Eligibility:

Consideration for this award shall be given to all full-time undergraduate/graduate students enrolled at all locations of the Pennsylvania State University who have demonstrated:

Selection Procedure:

Recipients of award will be chosen by a selection committee comprised of members from Student Affairs, The Commission on LGBT Equity and the LGBTQA Student Resource Center staff.

The 2015 Barry H. Marshal Scholarship recipient is: Sarah Kim

Barry H. Marshal Undergraduate Scholarship

Purpose:

The purpose of this scholarship shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at The Penn State University who have 1) demonstrated need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses 2) and who advocate for or contribute to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBQT) community. Preference shall be given to students from New York State.

The scholarship will be given out on an annual basis.

Term of Award:

Each scholarship shall be awarded for one academic year. The amount of the award will vary annually contingent on the annual interest from the original endowment. The Office of Student Aid will be notified of the scholarship recipient(s).

Selection procedure:

Recipients of this scholarship shall be selected by a committee comprised of members of the LGBTQA Student Resource Center staff and the Commission on LGBT Equity.

Recipients of the award will be recognized at the end of each academic year at the Commission on LGBT Equity Award night and the Lavender Graduation Celebration.

Barry M. Marshall Undergraduate Scholarship

 

The 2015 Miller & Lavigne Scholarship recipient is:

Bruce Miller and Dean Lavigne Trustee Scholarship

 

Purpose: 

The purpose of this scholarship shall be to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at The Pennsylvania State University at University Park or any non-University Park location, who have a demonstrated need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses and who have demonstrated an interest in advocating for or contributing to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) community.

Eligibility: 

Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at The Pennsylvania State University who have a demonstrated financial need. The Office of Student Aid is responsible for identifying the eligible pool of students. First preference shall be given to students from the eligible pool who have demonstrated an interest in advocating for or contributing to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) community. If no students meet the first preference in a given year, funds will be awarded to any student in the Division of Student Affairs eligibility pool, regardless of preference.

Term of Award:

Each scholarship shall be awarded for one academic year and may be renewed for subsequent years providing the recipient continues to meet the conditions of eligibility and funds are available.
