Parents and Families

Welcome to Residence Life at Penn State!

As a parent or family member, no doubt you are curious about the type of environment in which your student is living. It is natural to have questions and concerns as you and your student move through this college adventure and we are here to assist.

The Residence life program at University Park, one of the largest programs in the nation, houses 14,000 plus students on campus. Residence Life has a dedicated, supportive staff who are committed to engaging your student and strive to offer them the best experience they can have in their residential community.

Residence Life strives to enhance the student's total Penn State Experience by fostering learning both inside and outside the classroom and by providing caring support services. We help build a greater sense of community, one that is inclusive, cohesive and caring. Working with the students in the residence halls, the Residence Life staff prepares students to be effective, ethical leaders and active citizens who can make a positive difference in their communities.

Each residence area has an area office with a special blend of professional and para-professional staff who are available to assist each student in making connections with new friends, in finding interesting activities, and in navigating a large system. Our Central Residence Life office staff is accessible as well, on hand to help guide our residents. Our staff wear many hats, and they are here to serve!
