Meet the Director

Robert Smith, Director of Center for Spiritual and Ethical Development

Robert Smith, Director

Bob Smith is the Director of the Center for Spiritual and Ethical Development at Penn State University. The center is housed in the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center/Eisenhower Chapel, the largest multi-faith center on any campus. Bob received a B.A. in Criminal Justice Administration from Mansfield University, a B.A. in Secondary Education from Elmira College and a M.Ed. from Lock Haven University.

Before coming to Penn State Bob worked for more than 10 years in the field of mental health, and served as an educator for 7 years. Bob is confident that religious pluralism, actively engaging the many faiths, can have very positive results. As the Director, Bob encourages others to work together, learn from one another, respect our differences and celebrate our similarities, and to move beyond tolerance to genuine acceptance.

Bob lives in Mill Hall, PA with his wife Anna Mae and his two children, Megan and Graham.
