Scholarships

The following is a list of scholarships that the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life administers. This list may not be comprehensive of all scholarships offered through fraternities and sororities or that the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life administers.

Bruce and Elisa Ottinger Weidner Scholarship

Purpose: To provide recognition and financial assistance to members of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority of The Pennsylvania State University.

Eligibility: Consideration for awards shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students who are currently enrolled at The Pennsylvania State University, who have substantially contributed to the welfare of the Penn State Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, and who have completed at least six semesters or undergraduate work.

Amount of Award: The number of awards granted each year and the amount of each shall be based upon contributions received and the amount of earnings available from the Bruce and Elsa Ottiner Weidner Scholarship.

Application Process: The scholarship application process will be announced by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, 215 HUB-Robeson Student Center, each spring semester.

Peg Riley Loyalty Award

Purpose: To provide recognition of loyalty to Penn State to outstanding students enrolled at The Pennsylvania State University through financial assistance, and to honor Peg Riley’s loyalty and dedication to the Penn State Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and the University.

Eligibility: Consideration for this award shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students who will have completed four semesters of undergraduate study.  Candidates must have achieved positive academic records or manifest promise of academic success, and must have demonstrated University loyalty.  First preference shall be given to members of Kappa Kappa Gamma and second preference shall be given to all other women students.

Amount of Award: The number of awards granted each year and the amount of each shall be based upon contributions received and the amount of earnings available from the Peg Riley Loyalty Award.

Application Process: The scholarship application process will be announced by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, 215 HUB-Robeson Student Center, each spring semester.

Delta Upsilon Award

Purpose: To provide recognition and financial assistance to Delta Upsilon Fraternity members who have achieved the best academic records.

Eligibility: Consideration for awards shall be given to all members of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity who are enrolled as full-time students, who reside in the chapter house, and who have achieved superior academic records or who have proven financial need.

Amount of Award: Annual merit awards shall be made as follows:

a.   To the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior members who have achieved the best academic records among their class members for the fall semester.

b.   To the Sophomore and Junior members who have achieved the best academic records among their class members for the spring semester.

Annual need-based awards shall be made as follows:

a.   To the three members who are making satisfactory academic progress and have the highest unmet need for spring semester.

b.   To the two members who are making satisfactory academic progress and have the highest unmet need for fall semester. The number and amount of awards made annually may be revised by the selection committee according to the income available for the awards, but in no case shall the total of the awards made exceed the amount of income available for the awards.

Application Process: Applications are available from the President of the Alumni Corporation of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity.  The Alumni Corporation President should be contacted for additional information.

Gayle Byers Panhellenic Scholarship

Purpose: To provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at The Pennsylvania State University.

Eligibility: Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at The Pennsylvania State University who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success; who are active in extracurricular activities; and who are members of any chapter that belongs to one of the following organizations: Interfraternity, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic, or Penn State Panhellenic Council.  Executive Council officers of the Interfraternity, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic, or Penn State Panhellenic Council are not eligible.  Prior recipients of this scholarship are also not eligible to receive this scholarship.

Amount of Award: The number of scholarships awarded and the amount of each shall be determined by the Panhellenic Association and the Greek Sing Committee.

Application Process: The scholarship application process will be announced by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, 215 HUB-Robeson Student Center, each fall semester.

Gregory L. Devigne Memorial Leadership Award

Purpose: To provide recognition of support for Penn State demonstrated through leadership and involvement by outstanding students enrolled at The Pennsylvania State University. This recognition will be through financial assistance to those students, and will honor and memorialize Gregory L. Devigne’s dedication to the Penn State Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and to the University.

Eligibility: Consideration for awards shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students who have completed at least two semesters of undergraduate study.  Candidates must have demonstrated academic leadership or manifest promise of academic leadership, and must have demonstrated active support of University activities as determined by the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Amount of Award: The number of awards granted each year and the amount of each shall be based upon contributions received and the amount of earnings available from the Gregory L. Devigne Memorial Leadership Award.

Application Process: Applications are available from the President of the Alumni Corporation of the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.  The Alumni Corporation President should be contacted for additional information.

Interfraternity Council Scholarship

Purpose: To provide recognition and financial assistance to undergrade students enrolled at The Pennsylvania State University.

Eligibility: Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled at The Pennsylvania state University who have demonstrated distinguished service, leadership, and academic excellence.  Scholarships shall be awarded to students who are members of the Interfraternity Council.  However, if in any given year, there are no eligible members of the Interfraternity Council identified, scholarships may be awarded to full-time undergraduate students enrolled at The Pennsylvania State University who have demonstrate academic excellence

Amount of Award: The number of scholarships awarded and the amount of each shall be determined by the Interfraternity Council’s Executive Board.

Application Process: The scholarship application process will be announced by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, 215 HUB-Robeson Student Center, each fall semester.

Jim Nardell Memorial Award

Purpose: To provide of this award shall be to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at The Pennsylvania State University who have a demonstrated need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses.

Eligibility: Consideration for this award shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students who are members of the Chi Phi Fraternity and have displayed Jim’s “work hard, play hard” spirit as exemplified by their academic achievement, athletic participation, and overall involvement in the life of the campus.

Amount of Award: The number of awards made and the amount of each shall be determined by the selection committee, and shall be based upon contributions received and the amount of earnings available from the Jim Nardell Memorial Award.

Application Process: The scholarship application process will be announced by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, 215 HUB-Robeson Student Center, each spring semester.

John C. Cosgrove Foundation Phi Delta Theta Scholarship

Purpose: To provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding graduate and undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at The Pennsylvania State University.

Eligibility: Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time graduate and undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at The Pennsylvania State University who have achieved positive academic records or who manifest promise of academic success.  First preference shall be given to students who meet the aforementioned general eligibility criteria and whose parent and/or grandparent graduate from The Pennsylvania State University and was a member of the Phi Delta Fraternity.  Second preference shall be given to students who meet the general eligibility criteria and who are Interfraternity Council (IFC) officers.  Financial need may be a consideration but is not a requirement for eligibility for this scholarship

Amount of Award: The number of awards made and the amount of each shall be determined by the selection committee, and shall be based upon contributions received and the amount of earnings available from the John C. Cosgrove Foundation Phi Delta Theta Scholarship.

Application Process: The scholarship application process will be announced by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, 215 HUB-Robeson Student Center.

The John Franklin Shields Memorial Award Fund

Purpose: To provide awards for undergraduate and graduate students of The Pennsylvania State University who are active members in good standing of the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

Eligibility: Consideration for awards shall be given to all students, graduate or undergraduate, who are currently active members in good standing of the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

Amount of Award: The amount of all scholarships will be determined by the Alumni Corporation and will be determined by the funds available in the scholarship fund.

Application Process: Applications are available from the President of the Alumni Corporation of the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.  The Alumni Corporation President should be contacted for additional information.

Kappa Alpha PSU Trustee Scholarship

Purpose: To provide of this award shall be to honor and recognize outstanding achievement by an undergraduate student who is a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity at The Pennsylvania State University and who demonstrates Jim’s “work hard, play hard: spirit.

Eligibility: Consideration for this award shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at The Pennsylvania State University who have a demonstrated financial need.  The Office of Student Aid is responsible for identifying the eligible of students.  First preference shall be given to students from the eligible pool who are members of Kappa Alpha Psi at Penn State.

Amount of Award: The number of scholarships awarded and the amount of each shall be determined by the Office of Student Aid Scholarship Committee in coordination with the Office of Student Affairs Scholarship Committee.

Application Process: The scholarship application process will be announced by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, 215 HUB-Robeson Student Center.
