Brian Patchcoski is the Director of the LGBTQA Student Resource Center at The Pennsylvania State University. Prior to returning to Penn State, Brian served as the Associate Dean of Students and Director of the LGBT Resource Center and Co-Director of the Center for Intercultural Dialogue at Cornell University. He was also the founding Director of the Office of LGBTQ Services at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Before opening the Office at Dickinson, Brian served as the Assistant Director of the LGBTQA Student Resource Center at Penn State. He has participated in several national research projects examining student identity development and campus climate and has served as the Mid-Atlantic Representative for the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals. One of his most recent chapters accepted for publication focuses on navigating the intersection between spiritual and sexual identity amongst LGBTQ college students. The chapter centers on “queering” the work of higher education administrators and encouraging dialogue amongst some of the most “separate” entities on campus. Brian has also served as the Chair of the Pennsylvania College Personnel Associations LGBTQ Committee providing advocacy and education surrounding sexuality and gender related issues to colleges and universities across the state of Pennsylvania.

Im so happy to be on the staff here at Penn State. I enjoy working in a college atmosphere and being able to make an impact on the lives of young adults every day. I look forward to great things to come here in the SRC and helping to maintain our status as one of the most comprehensive centers across the country. In my previous career life, I was a collegiate softball coach as well as adjunct professor. I am a sports nut and love to watch most all sports live as well as on TV. I have a four year old daughter, Dylan, who keeps me on my toes. In my free time, I enjoy time with Dylan, golfing, hiking, biking, fantasy football and reading. I look forward to working to ensure that all of our students get the quality services they deserve.

My name is Kari Jo Freudigmann and I am excited to be the center's Programming Coordinator.  I hope to continue meeting the center's vision through programs, activities, education, and outreach.   I am a recent Masters of Student Affairs in Higher Education graduate with a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design and plan to continue my education in the future.  In my free time, I find joy in playing board, card, tabletop, or video games; reading a good book; and, of course, spending time with my fiancé.

I am the Office Manager for the center. I have spent 15 years at Penn State. I have accounting, marketing and staff assistant experience. This position has brought me back to my roots of accounting and managing an office and direct interaction with students. It is my plan to touch as many student's lives in the most positive way as possible while serving the LGBTQA community. Working here is always an adventure and no two days are ever the same - and that's a great thing!

Sarah McDonald

Graduate Assistant

(She, Her, Hers)

My name is Sarah McDonald and I am the graduate assistant at the LGBTQA Student Resource Center. I have a BA in English with a minor in Women’s Studies and an MFA in Creative Writing. While in graduate school, I worked as a writing center tutor and a composition and literature instructor. I am thrilled to return to Penn State to pursue an M.Ed. in Higher Education and continue working with college students. As graduate assistant, I will wear many hats, but one that I am most excited about is serving as a teaching assistant in the Straight Talks course and assisting in the coordination and scheduling of Straight Talks presentations where panelists share their personal stories and perspectives as members of the LGBTQA community. I believe storytelling is a powerful tool that can bridge social, political, and cultural gaps and help promote a warmer, more inclusive campus environment in line with the Center’s vision. As I work to meet the Center’s goals, I am also excited to continue my advocacy work at the Centre County Women’s Resource Center where I recently completed 80 hours of counselor/advocate training.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking with my dog and partner, kayaking, coffee, discovering a great book of poems, and every now and then, writing a poem.

I am one of the Hospitality and Office Operations Interns at the LGBTQA SRC. I am in my sophomore year at Penn State studying forensic science. I am also the Academic chair for the ALLY House special living option on campus. Please feel free to approach me and ask about the center, ALLY house, or just to talk if you need. I hope to help people as much as I can and to help people feel more at home at the center and on campus. I look forward to meeting everyone.

My name is Katerina and I'm a senior studying journalism. I love meeting new, interesting people and sharing their stories with the world. I hope to either be working in digital media or head to law school after I graduate. When I'm not in the office, I'm either chasing people down with a camera or spending time with my horse.

I'm excited to help out and meet everyone at the center! I hope to help make the place cleaner and stylish with designs, and also be the voice of our social media! There's not too much to know about me, outside of me being a giant nerd. I love drawing, podcasts, comics, video games, and fantasy! I'm a huge mythology nut, and I'm nursing a candy addiction, so if you ever need gum or lollipops, hit me up! I enjoy long walks on the beach, and staring deep into the Ocean's maw, terrified of the implications hidden within its dense, unknowable depths. Also, Grey is my favorite color, and I feel like that sums me up as a person pretty well.

Straight Talks Intern

(He, Him, His)

101 Boucke Building  |  Phone: 814-863-1248  |  Contact Now

I'm very excited to work with the SRC team this year as the Straight Talks Intern. I'm currently a 3rd-year undergraduate studying Computational Mathematics, Spanish, and Linguistics with aspirations of attending graduate school for Computational Linguistics. I work as a Spanish tutor with Penn State Learning and as a Lab Consultant with Student Technology Services. In my spare time I enjoy studying languages, watching movies, and listening to or creating music.

I've been interested in presentation and outreach since high school when I joined my school's speech and debate team, and I've continued to pursue that passion as the current President of the PSU Speech and Debate Society. My hope is to be able to educate and bring together the LGBTQ+ community and all of our allies at Penn State to make our campus safer and more welcoming for everyone.

I am excited to work for the center this year as the Community Outreach intern. My name is Lauren and I am a sophomore studying psychology. I am a Change of Campus student from Mont Alto and happy to be at University Park now. When I’m not in class or at the center, I’m studying, eating food or watching Netflix or Youtube, sometimes all at once. If I’m not doing any of those, I’m probably sleeping. I’m enthusiastic to work with all of our student organizations and help to meet our visions for the center.
