Penn State received feedback about the experiences of students who began their education at another Penn State campus before coming to the University Park (UP) campus. Not only do the results give insight into students’ transfer experiences, but they also contribute to ongoing efforts in improving the supports and services for successful transitions to UP. Results from the Spring 2018 administration of the survey show that:

  • 90.0% of students said that they would choose to attend Penn State if they were starting college again.
  • Students already at UP and staff at their originating campus were the top-two most helpful resources regarding the change-of-campus process.
  • 60.2% changed campuses because their major or degree type was not available at their originating campus.
  • Approximately half of the students felt highly connected to their originating campus (49.3%) and the Penn State community as a whole (44.3%).
  • For almost half of the students (47.5%), larger class sizes at UP had a moderate or significant negative effect on their educational experiences.
  • Overall, change-of-campus students felt “moderately” integrated at University Park. Involvement in student clubs/organization at UP (but not at originating campus) influenced the level of integration students felt at UP. Also, students who were active in clubs/organization at their originating campus were more likely to be involved at UP.
