ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

The Pennsylvania State University, Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), University Park, has an Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (AD, DEI) position available beginning September 1, 2022.

The AD, DEI will serve as a member of the administrative and leadership team for Counseling and Psychological Services.  The AD, DEI will work closely with CAPS staff and collaborate with relevant campus stakeholders serving students.  Duties include:

  • creating, managing, and operating a vision at CAPS to facilitate mental health services (treatment and prevention) for students with historically marginalized identities. 

  • developing diversity initiatives and collaborating with other campus offices and units to create/identify programming that addresses the mental health needs of students with marginalized identities, as well as increase staff and campus stakeholder awareness, knowledge, and skills in working with specific populations, as well as fostering cultural humility. 

  • collaborating with the Senior Director and other AD’s to increase recruitment and retention of staff with diverse identities.

The AD, DEI is also a strong generalist in orientation.  This position will provide direct clinical services to students including individual and group psychotherapy, urgent assessment/stabilization/follow-up, triage, appropriate disposition to on and off-campus referrals, outreach and mental health consultation to students, faculty, and staff and clinical supervision.  This position may also include administrative supervision responsibilities.  Reporting to the Senior Director, this position requires an innovative leader who can build upon current initiatives, create new pathways moving forward, as well as work well independently and as a member of a team. 

Training and experience in working with students from marginalized identities is required. Typically requires a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology plus 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be licensed or license eligible as a psychologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania if coming from a different jurisdiction. A one-year full-time doctoral internship in professional psychology or Health Service Psychology is required. APA accredited training/internship, and counseling center experience preferred.

State College, PA, a university town, with a population of 105,000 (which includes the State College borough and surrounding townships) was recently cited as one of the top university towns in the United States. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are 3 to 4 hours from State College and Baltimore is about 3 hours. State College and the university provide the major intellectual, cultural, and recreational resources for central Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania State University, Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), University Park, PA has an excellent opportunity available for a Psychiatrist interested in working with university students. Position is available beginning August 6, 2021.

Clinical responsibilities include:

Providing psychiatric care, primarily evaluations and medication management, to university students within a multidisciplinary setting. One hour is allocated for psychiatric evaluations and 30 minutes is allocated for follow-up visits. There is minimal insurance billing, and all billing is handled by staff assistants.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with mental health clinicians at CAPS and providers within University Health Services at Penn State as needed

  • Providing supervision/consultation for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants at CAPS

  • Providing training and support for graduate students and doctoral interns from psychology programs, as well as CAPS multidisciplinary staff as needed

Preference is given to candidates who have experience providing services to diverse populations, such as, but not limited to, underrepresented students, international students, and sexually and/or gender diverse students.

Requires a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional years of experience required for higher level positions. Licensure or eligibility for licensure to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required. Must be licensed in Pennsylvania by start date of position. The successful applicant should be Board Certified or Board Eligible with either the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry and should also have an unrestricted DEA license. 

This is a 75% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. Will work 30 hours per week year-round, weekdays only with no on-call responsibilities. Full Penn State benefits are included. Application review will continue until the position is filled.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) with Student Affairs is seeking a candidate for an Administrative Support Assistant to serve as the first point of contact, in person and via phone, maintain confidential information and coordinate travel arrangements. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:  

  • Greet customers, provide information, and refer, as appropriate
  • Screen and process routine telephone communications, mail, and requests 
  • Maintain, monitor, and manage schedules for 50+ staff members
  • Coordinate travel arrangements, make reservations, and process reimbursements 
  • Maintain files and databases; assemble and format data to create simple reports. 
  • Maintain inventory and order/purchase office supplies; arrange for equipment -maintenance; process work orders for facilities repairs/needs
  • Record and distribute meeting minutes
  • Compose and edit written communication
  • Prepare documents, meeting materials, correspondence
  • Maintain multiple room schedules
  • Manage electronic records and confidential/sensitive information and materials. 

This position typically requires a High School diploma or higher plus 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
