The Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity offers workshops and educational experiences for students, faculty, and staff.
Faculty, Staff & Graduate Student Workshops
The Safer People Safer Places program offers a variety of workshops providing a foundation of knowledge needed to be an effective ally to the LGBTQ+ community at Penn State. Individuals who complete workshops can choose to display a Safer People Safer Places decal in their work area. Network members should be comfortable with LGBTQ+ individuals approaching them to talk about LGBTQ+ related issues, and be able to assist individuals in finding campus and/or local resources. Those who complete the foundations workshop will also be added to our Safer People Safer Places network listserv and be listed on our website as a network participant.
Straight Talks Peer Education Program
The Straight Talks Peer Education Program consists of two peer education experiences. Student Voice Panels tell their personal narrative, give a brief overview of the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, and educate audience members on terminology and identities in the LGBTQ+ community. Student Ally workshops are peer-facilitated opportunities that educate students about the LGBTQ+ population, helps them understand the issues facing LGBTQ+ students, and increases awareness of the various LGBTQ+ resources at Penn State and in the community.
LGBTQ+ Lecture Series
The Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity strives to educate members of campus and the local community on various LGBTQ+ identities. Through partnerships with academic and co-curricular departments, we provide annual engagement opportunities that are interdisciplinary and justice focused.
