Build Awareness, Foster Growth, and Strengthen Relationships
CAPS offers counseling that empowers students to reflect, connect, and move forward. Whether you're exploring personal challenges or navigating a relationship, our goal is to support your development and overall well-being—core values in the student experience at Penn State.
Getting Started with Care
Every student’s path is different. That’s why CAPS begins with a brief phone screening to learn more about your needs and help you find the right fit — whether that’s services at CAPS or support in the community.

Individual Counseling
Short-term individual counseling helps students explore emotional, academic, or relational concerns in a collaborative, solution-focused space. Students work with a counselor to better understand the source of their concerns and develop personalized strategies for change.
CAPS uses a brief therapy model to meet the most common mental health needs of our student community. If your concerns require more long-term care, we can help connect you to a community provider that aligns with your needs and preferences.
Couples Counseling
Relationships are important—and sometimes they need extra care. CAPS provides short-term counseling to help couples improve communication, navigate conflict, and foster healthy connection.
Counseling is available for married, unmarried, and LGBTQ+ couples when at least one partner is a full-time student. Services are confidential, inclusive, and focused on strengthening your relationship. Both partners must meet CAPS eligibility criteria, and tele-counseling availability depends on both partners’ current locations.
