 A picture ID and valid Campus Recreation Membership are required for admission. Hours are subject to change. All changes will be posted in the affected facility.

  • Intramural Building & Natatorium are closed on home football Saturdays.

Campus Recreation Facilities

Campus Recreation provides a wide variety of facilities, fields, and classes to help make your wellness journey as customized and enjoyable as possible. 

IM Building

The IM Building is conveniently located near residence halls at the east corner of campus in the Intramural Building. This is the newest and largest recreation center on campus, with over 19,000 square feet of space.

Strength and Fitness Center

The center offers a variety of selectorized and free weight stations, two separate dumbbell areas, and more than 90 cardio machines with cable and internet access available for training. IM includes a 250-capacity fitness center with the latest in cardio, selectorized and free weights. A state-of-the-art climbing wall and bouldering center are available along with spin cycling and 3 fitness studios for fitness classes.

There's an indoor turf field, a 1/6 mile indoor track with dispersed stretching and fitness zones, a martial arts room, ten racquetball courts, four squash courts, a table tennis lounge, locker rooms, a variety of lounge, study spaces, and meeting rooms.

Climbing Suite

The climbing wall, located in the IM Building, stands at over 40 feet tall with 16 climbing lanes capable of both top rope and lead climbing. Our climbing wall offers fun, recreational climbing opportunities for all climbers, regardless of experience or ability. Our state-of-the-art wall, designed by Eldorado Climbing Walls, features up to 64 routes (for climbers of all abilities), two climbable crack systems, a rappel ledge, and a teaching area for skills and clinics.

Bouldering Wall

The bouldering wall is located down the hallway from the climbing wall and offers additional space for unroped climbing. Use of the 14-foot tall bouldering wall is also FREE for students (included as part of the student recreation fee) during all open hours of the IM Building. All you need is a pair of climbing shoes and a bouldering orientation from one of our staff and you’re ready to go!

Gyms

IM has multiple gymnasium spaces set up for basketball, volleyball, badminton, and much more.

Table Tennis Area

Come check out our table tennis area with room for multiple simultaneous games, you can stay warm and in the action!

Indoor Track

Enjoy a 1/6-mile indoor track with dispersed stretching and fitness zones.

Indoor Turf Field

Take advantage of the indoor turf field all year long.

Racquetball & Squash Courts

IM Building offers 10 racquetball courts and 4 dedicated squash courts.

Hepper Fitness Center

Known as the West Campus workout spot, Hepper Fitness Center is located in Rec Hall. The latest in strength training equipment and cardio machines; Hepper can accommodate 240 patrons.

Hepper's facility includes free-weight, plate-loaded, and selectorized strength equipment; a 70-piece cardio loft with treadmills, ellipticals, upright & recumbent bikes, steppers, and rowers. A variety of personal training packages are available (fee) that are specifically tailored to your fitness goals.

White Building

The White Building is located in the middle of campus near the HUB and offers convenience to those traveling across campus, as well as students living on the south side of campus or downtown.

Strength and Fitness Center

White Building offers a strength and fitness center that provides 75 selectorized and plate-loaded stations, 50 free weight stations, and 60 cardio machines.

Basketball Courts & Multipurpose Rooms

Take advantage of the 2 basketball courts for informal recreation. 3 hardwood multi-use rooms, 1 tiled floor multi-use room, and 1 Marley floor room are available for reservation for approved student organizations.

Indoor Pool

The indoor pool offers a 25 meter, 5 lane lap pool with an ADA lift.

Outdoor Fields

Catch that winning IM football touchdown, enjoy an hour of soccer with your gang, practice to win a championship with your Club Sports teammates or take part in an outdoor yoga session - these are just a few of the daily happenings on our Campus Recreation Fields. Three areas are located across campus to meet your diverse recreation needs.

Bigler West Field

The 340 x 230 foot grass Bigler West Field, located behind the Natatorium, is a gated field for Club Sports practices and additional Intramural programming.

Park Avenue Fields

The Park Avenue Fields, north of East Halls, is the largest grass field complex on campus at 12 acres. Used heavily Monday thru Thursday evenings for Intramural Sports leagues & Club Sports practices as well as occasional weekend events, the Park Avenue Fields are the perfect place to get outside.

West Fields

The West Campus Turf Fields, off Atherton Street near Rec Hall, are key-access gated turf fields. Both 360 x 200 feet fields are home to informal recreation, Club Sports practices, and reservations.

The Tennis Center

Our Tennis program within Campus Recreation can be broken into two categories. We have both Community Tennis programming and Student Tennis programming.

Student Tennis

Clinics, competitive play, late-night competitions, and more. The Tennis Center has it all to help you learn to love the game, grow your skills, and keep your game at it's best.

Community Tennis

Our goal to facilitate community tennis programming continues to be a high priority for Campus Recreation. Your support allows for our clay courts to receive maintenance, and indoor facility hours to remain abundant. Please review some of the options below to meet your tennis needs.

Directions, Parking, and Policies

Tennis Center Policies

  • Shoe Policy
    Whether playing indoor or outdoors all shoes must be a tennis court type shoe or white sole. All Black Soled Shoes Are Prohibited.

  • Permanent Reservations
    Permanent reservations can be made at any time for a specific time and day for the entire season.

    • Deposit of $50 per hour required for all permanent reservations.

    • Complete deposit is forfeited if a No-Show or default occurs.

    • Changes in permanent reservations must be verified at the pro shop.

    • Specific courts cannot be guaranteed.

    • Pre-paid courts for the season receive discounts. See court attendant for details.

  • Cancellations
    All cancellations of reserved courts must be done 24 hours in advance of reservation. Reservations made less than 24 hours in advance of playing time cannot be canceled. 

    • Members will be billed for not appearing for their reservation

    • Non-Members will have their credit cards charged. for not appearing for their reservation.

    • During the Penn State holiday break the club will be open. Permanent reservations will need to be cancelled in person one week prior to break.
  • Open Court Time
    Open court time includes any court available for rent on a non-regular basis. Advance reservations can be made by a club member, a valid Reservations Privilege Card holder, or a non-club member hold by credit card and can be made no more than one week in advance.

  • No Shows
    No shows are billed to members.

  • Group Rentals
    Available at discounts to groups to rent the entire complex during the indoor season on Friday and Saturday evenings. Please ask court attendant for details.

    • Booking Fee: $100 per hour

    • Setup Fee: $100 per hour

    • Outdoor Rental: $75 per hour

    • Indoor Rental: $125 per hour

  • Building Closures
    The Campus Recreation Department reserves the right to close the building at its discretion for events.

    • Closure Days
      All home Penn State Football Saturdays, home varsity matches, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day, Christmas Eve, New Years Eve

    • Varsity Practice Season
      Weekly indoor court time from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. is reserved for varsity practice during the season (mid-September thru mid-May)

McCoy Natatorium

The Natatorium offers a variety of water-related programming throughout the year including recreational swimming, instruction & certifications, club sports groups, intramural events, and a variety of special aquatic events and competitions.

Indoor Pool

Recreational lap swimming is frequently available along with swim lessons, aqua fitness classes, certifications, club sport practice and events, and intramural events

The Natatorium has a 25-yard, 6-10 foot deep indoor competition pool, a 25-meter, 3.5-5 foot shallow indoor instructional pool, and a dedicated 14-foot deep diving well with 1 & 3-meter springboards.

Men's, Women's, and Family Friendly Locker Rooms are available with showers, bathrooms, and day-use lockers. Locker Rentals are available on a semester or annual basis.

Outdoor Pool

The outdoor pool is 50-meters x 25-yards, 4.5-15 feet deep with 8 long lanes.

Stone Valley Recreation Center

Stone Valley Recreation Center is a natural treasure nestled in the rolling hills of Central Pennsylvania, only 17 miles from the University Park campus. Scenic mountains, wooded trails, and abundant amenities make Stone Valley a favored destination.  Students, organizations, adults, children, families, residents, out-of-state visitors, passersby all find a reason to pause and take in its beauty.

Boating

Head offshore and explore Stone Valley from a different perspective. Discover beautiful views and enjoy calmness unique to being on the waters of 72-acre Lake Perez.  Consider spending a portion or all of your day on the lake. Stone Valley offers a comprehensive Boat Rental Service, Launch Permits, and Mooring Permits. 

Fishing

Enjoy the day fishing from shore or by boat for a variety of species (trout, bass, pickerel, sunfish, catfish, and others) found in Lake Perez. All Pennsylvania fishing regulations apply and a valid PA Fishing License with a Trout Stamp is required.

Hiking

Explore our twenty-plus miles of hiking trails or utilize spur trails to gain access to even more hiking in the Rothrock State Forest. Circumnavigate Lake Perez on the Lake Trail, a 2.9-mile loop that will take you through the Stone Valley Recreation Area and Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center.

Shake it up with Shake Smart!

Shake Smart specializes in freshly blended protein shakes, organic acai bowls, organic peanut butter and banana sandwiches, oatmeal, greek yogurt and cold brew coffee. A perfect option for before or after workouts, or for the college on-the-go lifestyle, Shake Smart was created by students, for students.
