Our Commitment to the Penn State Community
We’ve finally hit the “green” phase in Centre County. What does that mean for our recreational pursuits, workouts, and Campus Recreation community? As private fitness studios and workout facilities open in the State College area we know that you’re eager to come back to our facilities and programs – we understand – we miss you just as much as you miss us!
While our recreation centers, pools, and courts remain closed, we’re working on timelines to open each facility with new safety and distancing expectations. The announcement about a return to campus is great news for our planning efforts. Our staff has been working diligently to plan for a safe return to all of our facilities and program areas. Here are some highlights:
This fall will be unprecedented, on campus and in our facilities and programs. Some equipment and facilities will look different as we space things out to accommodate distancing. You may find equipment and activities in some interesting spots! Classes and programs will have capacity limits and will be appropriately timed to allow for cleaning and disinfecting of rooms and equipment according to new standards. Individual spaces and rooms will have capacity limits and we will likely require individual reservations for access.
Have you been to Stone Valley lately? The parking lot gates are open, and Lake Perez is beautiful this time of year. Take advantage of the lake and miles of trails. Currently, boat rentals and cabins are not available, but you can still enjoy a great day in nature at Stone Valley.
When we are able to open the IM Building and our other facilities we will do so with our students', patrons', and staffs’ health and safety as our highest priority. Currently we’re creating cleaning, capacity, and spacing protocols as well as building navigation to minimize, as best we can, contact with other individuals.
We will have more to come in regard to membership reactivation after we are able to more fully understand our facility capacity limitations and how those might affect our ability to serve our students and members.
New this fall - ShakeSmart, a new healthy food option, will be located in the IM Building be scheduled to open when the IM Building opens for our students and patrons. A second ShakeSmart location in the White Building will open in the early fall.
