Text Options (H2)
Text paragraphs are the most commonly used widget on our website. Keep language short and sweet; use minimum words and avoid jargon when you can. The website should not serve as a repository for all information but rather key points that our audiences need to access quickly and efficiently.
- Use bulleted lists to keep content easily navigated
- We use the Chicago Manual of Style to format text
- Penn State's Editorial Standards are also helpful for information related to the University
Only use Headers (H3)
Keep in mind that accessibility of text is priority. Use headers to organize new sections of content. Do not use bolded or formatted text in place of tagged headers.
Organize headers (H4)
Use an H2 header to start a section and use headers in numerical order. When you start a new section start again with an H2 header. Directly below the header use paragraph format for text. Add in elements like tables (example below) to organize data.

Image Sizes:
Web images MUST be sized correctly, cropped before uploading, and named according to the below naming conventions. If you are unsure how to size correctly, please contact our office. We are happy to help upload photos.
Sizing:
- Page Banner – 1366 x 420
- Text with Image – 208 x 312 (width is always 208, height is variable but never less than 312)
- Call Out – 184 x 184
- Slideshow – 690 x 460
Photos should be optimized for the web, downsized to 72 dpi.
Naming Conventions:
- PageBanner_Dept.Abbreviation_Description_Month_Year
- TextImage_Dept.Abbreviation_Description_Month_Year
