Start with Support
If you’re having difficulty accessing food, housing medical care, or other basic needs and would like support navigating your situation, complete a Basic Needs Request Form for yourself or someone you know. A knowledgeable case manager from your campus will follow up to offer personalized guidance.

Access to food should be simple and stigma-free. Penn State offers a variety of options to help you stay nourished and supported.

Provides direct access to food and basic needs for students—no questions asked. - Campus Mini-Pantries
Convenient locations across campus offer quick access to food and essentials, including Helping Hands Depot, Pod’s Pantry, PAW Pantry, PRIDE Pantry, and more. Most are open daily during the academic year and available to all students. - Commonwealth Campus Food Pantries

Fresh, student-grown produce available through the Student Farm. - Basic Needs Support Hub

- SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
Students may be eligible based on work-study status, employment, or financial need. SNAP benefits can be used at select campus locations for eligible food items. - Medicaid / Medical Assistance
Students without insurance may qualify based on income and eligibility criteria. - Additional Pennsylvania Programs
The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services offers a range of support programs. Your local County Assistance Office can help you navigate available options. - WIC (Women, Infants, and Children Program)
Provides nutrition support for eligible individuals and families. - Lifeline (Internet Assistance)

Health Concerns
Most students will encounter some form of health issue during their time as a student. While we hope these occurrences are minor, there are sure to be situations involving students who are sick, injured, or dealing with significant medical or mental health challenges that disrupt their academic pursuits.
Mental health is a basic need, too.
