Building Community for first year, change of campus, and transfer LGBTQ+ students

Queer Peers aims to share information and resources, build community, and assist with students' transition to Penn State, University Park. As first year, transfer, or change-of-campus students, participants can engage in various events, programs, and activities that will enhance their student experience, social networks, and will help them gain a better understanding of Penn State's resources as they relate to the LGBTQ+ community. Queer Peers is open to all students regardless of sex, gender, sexual orientation, race, or any other protected class.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, students interested in participating in Queer Peers events are given a passport listing each event's time. date, and location. This passport can be used to see events in advance but also as a way to record attendance. When students attend four Queer Peers events, they are eligible to receive a reusable sticker book from the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity.

Main Events:

Scavenger Hunt: The event will begin with icebreakers and getting-to-know-you activities led by student workers. Experienced CSGD student workers will help groups of new students on a scavenger hunt through the HUB while giving helpful pieces of advice about resources offered nearby.

Been There, Done That: Student workers at the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity will be available in a panel to give perspective about their time at Penn State and answer any questions you might have as an LGBTQ+ student.

Stretch OUT: Join us to have a fun evening learning how to play pickleball. No registration required, but don't forget to bring your student ID.

September 12th, 2023 | 5:30 p.m. | IM Building

Gameshow Throwdown: Learn more about LGBTQ+ identities, history, and moments here at Penn State in this competitive night of fun! We'll be playing 3 team based games modeled after various Gameshows. Come as a group or individual to learn more and have the chance to win great prizes.

Student Leader Craft Night: Learn more about some of the organizations on campus as we invite student leaders to join us for this craft activity. Paint a glass planter for your room and learn more about opportunities on campus.

Dinner at the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity: Join us for dinner in the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity to celebrate and recognize your time sent at Penn State.
