Students can gain valuable experience and professional skills in one of the nation's top LGBTQ+ offices through our Undergraduate and Graduate student staff positions. Students play an active role in programming, marketing and promotion, educational outreach, and fostering a more inclusive environment for the Penn State community.
Undergraduate and Graduate Student Staff Positions
The purpose of the student staff program in the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity is to give students the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience, and collaborate with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff. These positions work to increase involvement and to enhance students’ collegiate experience by supporting the initiatives of the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity.

Responsibilities
Student staff will be in their position for one academic year, with the opportunity to reapply. Each position is a minimum 10-hour a week appointment that can go to a maximum of 15 hours per week that is compensated by funds provided through generous support from the Student Fee Board.
All student staff are responsible for general office duties:
- Preparing workshop materials
- Assisting with general office support such as answering phone calls, replying to emails, and greeting visitors in a positive and professional manner.
- Attending staff meetings
- Staffing informational tables
- Planning, coordination, and staffing of Signature Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity events (i.e., Pride Month, Transgender Awareness Month, LGBTQ History Month, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
In addition to office management, student staff members are also responsible for duties related to their position (see positions below).

The Student Marketing Position positions are responsible for general office duties as well as the following:
- Graphic design
- Developing/editing a variety of promotional materials
- Creating/editing the weekly Rainbow Newsletter.
- Maintaining advertising, and creating posts for and maintaining social media accounts

The Programming and Outreach positions are responsible for general office duties as well as the following:
- Assist in coordinating first year/transfer student Queer Peers program.
- Planning, scheduling, and staffing Late Night at the Center events
- Assist in planning, coordination, and staffing of signature Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity events (i.e., Pride Month, Transgender Awareness Month, LGBTQ History Month, etc.)
- Student group outreach
- Assist in planning, coordination, scheduling, and staffing of Peer Education program

The Graduate and Professional Student Engagement positions are responsible for general office duties as well as the following:
- Support the creation of community circles for graduate students; including dedicated time for graduate students to meet and build community with one another
- Creation of Socials/Mixers that are specifically for LGBTQA+ graduate students
- Assist in the creation of graduate student or teaching assistant inclusivity workshops
- Facilitation of graduate student discussion groups
- Coordination of graduate student engagement opportunities in the local community
- Offer/staff times for graduate student use of the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity outside of traditional office hours
