Open Call | Wall Drawings, Murals, and Exhibition Case Installations

We’re looking for great ideas to collaborate on through cross-disciplinary and discovery-based processes.   

Charged by the HUB-Robeson Galleries Student Advisory Councils questions of local relevance and international significance, we will produce wall drawings, murals, and/or exhibition case installations that are in care of the following 

  • The 5 pillars of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership 

  • Care Economies exploring labor, social reproduction, affective and emotional labor, and the integrated crisis of work, home, and community 

  • Collective power integral to the term commonwealth while recognizing its connection to exploitation and colonialism

ART EXHIBITIONS INTERN 

We are looking for a part-time intern for two days per week for 10 weeks (exact dates can be flexible between May 10th – August 22nd, M/W or T/TH 10-6 PM). Interns can elect for paid positions ($10/hour) or for academic credit. The internship takes place in the HUB-Robeson Center at University Park and is for Penn State undergraduate and graduate students. Students pursuing degrees in arts and humanities, business, management, photography and communications are encouraged to apply.  

Tasks May Include 

  • Working with New York City based artist Rosemarie Fiore for upcoming exhibitions.  

  • Assisting with exhibitions that focus on environmental sustainability, community and health and wellness. 

  • Documenting and creating dynamic media to raise awareness of exhibitions and projects. 

  • Hosting guests in the galleries, attending virtual events, creating and guiding virtual tours. 

  • Assisting with art handling and exhibition installation. 

Educational Objective 

  • Skills Gained: Exhibitions research, wide-ranging understanding of processes including conception, design, installation, and coordination. 

 

COMMUNICATIONS INTERN 

We are looking for a part-time communications assistant for two days per week for 10 weeks (exact dates can be flexible between May 10th – August 22nd, M/W or T/TH 10-6 PM. The internship takes place in the HUB-Robeson Center at University Park and is for Penn State undergraduate and graduate students. Students pursuing degrees in arts and humanities, marketing, business, management, photography, journalism, and communications are encouraged to apply.  

Tasks May Include 

  • Drafting signage, vinyl wall texts, posters, and marketing materials and campaigns.  

  • Upholding identity design standards in communications. 

  • Strategizing and researching target audiences and compiling lists for outreach.  

  • Documenting exhibitions, programs and events through photography and video. 

  • Creating dynamic media.  

  • Writing press releases, PSU news stories, and short blogs for website and social content. 

  • Interviewing contemporary artists. 

Educational Objective 

  • Skills Gained: Marketing strategies, wide-ranging understanding of processes including content creation, documentation, and communication. 

 

GALLERY ASSISTANT  

The HUB-Robeson Galleries are currently seeking to hire Penn State students to fill part-time, hourly positions (20 hours per week or less). Applicants must enjoy speaking with guests and be curious about art. Typical job duties include installing exhibitions, greeting and assisting visitors, and assisting with virtual events. This position has an expected start date of May 10, 2021. An arts background is not required; all students are encouraged to apply. Regular gallery hours are Monday-Sunday 10 AM – 6 PM.
