Whether you are just starting your fitness journey, or you are looking to change up your fitness routine, Penn State Campus Recreation Certified Personal Trainers are here to guide you through a program specifically designed and tailored to help you achieve your goals. Our Personal Trainers will provide quality education, direction, and motivation to the Penn State community through safe, fun, and effective training habits.

Personal Training Policies & Procedures

Registering & Trainer Selection

Registering & Trainer Selection

  • Complete the registration form to get started

  • You will be provided with a personal trainer based on schedule/availability at the facility of your choice. Sessions will be conducted at that facility for the duration of your package unless approved by the Personal Training Coordinator.

  • The Personal Training Coordinator will contact you, within 2 business days via your Penn State email account in order to pair you with a trainer.

  • Payments are to be made prior to the first meeting with a trainer.

  • The Personal Training Coordinator will track all paid session(s).

  • Only personal trainers that are affiliated with Penn State Campus Recreation Fitness and Wellness are permitted to conduct sessions within our facilities.

Assessment & Consultation

Assessment & Consultation with my Trainer

  • The Fitness Assessment and Consultation gives the Personal Trainer baseline information about your current fitness level. The results from this assessment allow the trainer to create an exercise program that best fits your needs. It will also allow you and your trainer to develop your goals to work towards during your training sessions.

  • Prepare for your Assessment and Consultation

    • Wear fitted exercise attire for your Body Composition Analysis and Assessment.

    • Do not eat or exercise 2-3 hours before your assessment. This will skew results of the analysis.

    • Bring water and a towel.

  • Bring your Health History Questionnaire with you

Cancellation, Make-Up & Refund Policy

Cancellation, Make-Up & Refund Policy

  • We require a 24-hour notice of cancellation. Failure to notify the Personal Training Coordinator or Trainer will result in forfeiture of your session(s).  The session(s) WILL BE deducted from your package total.

  • Any training sessions that are not used CAN BE rolled over to the next semester.  Any sessions not used are non-refundable.

  • In the event of a schedule conflict, Penn State Campus Recreation Personal Training reserves the right to transfer you to a different trainer for your session(s).

  • All sessions are expected to begin on time and will last 60 minutes. The trainer will wait for 15 minutes past the scheduled start time.  If you fail to arrive, it will be considered a missed session and will be deducted from your package total.

Fitness Assessment and Consultation

Fitness Assessment and Consultation

In this one-hour, one session assessment, the Personal Trainer will guide you through a body composition analysis using the MyMade app and evaluate movement patterns from cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, flexibility/range of motion. Once your assessment is completed, the Personal Trainer will develop a 4-week program for you to complete on your own. This program will be given to you within 3-5 days of your completed assessment.

One-on-One Personal Training

One-on-One Personal Training

One-on-one sessions with a certified trainer who will help you achieve your fitness goals through motivation and guidance! Sessions can be held at the Intramural Building, White Building, or Hepper Fitness Center during open hours.

  • All session packages over 5 will include a Fitness Assessment and Consultation with your Personal Trainer.

Buddy Training

Buddy Training

You and a friend of a similar fitness level can work together with a certified Personal Trainer to achieve both of your fitness goals! Some people choose this option to add a competitive edge to their workout, or just to have some extra motivation.

Small-Group Training

Small Group Training

Your trainer will lead you and 5-7 others in your group through fun and interactive workouts designed to meet your fitness goals while allowing you to meet new people with similar fitness goals and interests! 

Virtual Training

Virtual Training

A Personal Trainer will create a custom workout plan specifically for you that can be done at home or at the fitness centers on your own time. You will meet with trainers, throughout the program and have access to instructional videos to guide each exercise and be a part of the virtual training online community.

Already a certified personal trainer?

We accept certifications from accredited organizations such as ACE, ACSM, NSCA, ISSA, etc. Please email the Assistant Director for Fitness and Wellbeing at fitness@psu.edu for more information.

Mentor Program

Our student Personal Trainers are committed to health and fitness. They hold a national certification and have successfully completed a 16-week, 2-credit training course (Kines 93). Through this course, they gain leadership skills, fitness knowledge, and motivational tools to help fellow students become fit, healthy contributors to the Penn State community.
