General Information

  • Cabins are available for University groups, non-University groups, and individuals
  • Arrival time is 3:00 p.m. and departure time is 10:00 a.m.
  • A two-night minimum applies at all times
  • Peak Rates Apply to:
    • Arts Festival
    • PSU Home Football Weekends
    • Opening Week of Trout Season
    • Memorial Day Weekend (Friday-Sunday)
    • The week containing July 4th (Sunday-Saturday)
    • Labor Day Weekend (Friday-Sunday)
    • Parents Weekend
    • Graduation (Thursday-Tuesday)
Reservations

Reservation Process

  • Cabin reservations will be accepted six months prior to when you wish to come.
  • Penn State University Park students and University Park Departments/Student Organizations may make reservations up to one year in advance.
  • To make a reservation call or email Stone Valley. You may also submit a reservation request through the online portal.
  • Cabins are available from mid-March through mid-November.
  • Advanced reservations are required.
  • All rentals must be paid prior to arrival.
  • Payments are accepted by cash or credit card. Checks are not accepted.

Payments

  • Payments by cash or credit card may be taken in person at Stone Valley Recreation Area.
  • Payments by credit card can be made online at the Penn State Campus Recreation online portal.
  • A deposit equal to 10% of the rental fee is due within ten days of your reservation. Deposits not made within this timeframe will result in cancellation of the reservation.
  • The remaining balance due must be paid two weeks prior to your arrival.
  • Cabin rentals for Penn State home football weekends must be for Friday and Saturday nights and must be paid in full within ten days of your reservation. Reservations not paid within this timeframe will be cancelled.

Cancellations

  • For cancellations made more than 14 days prior to your arrival date, the University will retain a 10% cancellation fee.
  • Cancellations made within 14 days of your scheduled arrival date will be charged the first night’s use fee.
  • No refunds will be given for cancellations on home football, holiday, or graduation weekend unless there is a waiting list and the cabin is rented by another party. A cancellation fee may still apply.
  • No-shows, Early Departures, or Cancellations after the scheduled arrival date are not entitled to a refund.
Cabin Rules & Guidelines
  • Quiet hours are from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.
  • Refunds will not be issued to anyone asked to leave due to rules violations.
  • Guests not spending the night at SVRA are allowed during daylight hours but must vacate the premises during quiet hours (9 p.m. to 8 a.m.).
  • Cabins must be cleaned prior to checking out.
  • Cleaning charges may be assessed to any patron who checks out prior to cleaning the cabin.
  • Damage, or theft of Campus Recreation property will be charged to the registered customer.
  • Alcohol is prohibited.
  • Smoking is prohibited.
  • Cabin occupants must park in the main parking area or in the paved lots near the shower house.
    • Vehicles may temporarily park on the service road in front of their cabin for loading/unloading.
    • Arrangements for handicapped parking should be made with SVRA in advance of visit.
  • Rental activities are limited to the individual cabin, and grounds immediately surrounding these buildings unless stated otherwise in the rental contract.
  • Cabins contain bunk beds with mattresses, bedding is not provided.
    • 4-bed cabins contain one full/twin bunk bed and one twin/twin bunk bed.
    • 6-bed cabins contain twin bunk beds.
  • Cabin occupancy is limited to the number of beds in the cabin except in 4-bed cabins which may hold 5 people. Cabin occupancy may not be exceeded.
  • Refrigerators are provided.
  • Cooking and eating utensils, and dinnerware are not provided.
  • Campfire ring and outdoor picnic table is provided at each cabin.
  • Burn only firewood in the fire ring.
    • For the health of the environment and nearby wildlife, no trash or other items should be burned. A trash dumpster is provided for your convenience.
    • All firewood must be purchased at Stone Valley or be certified heat-treated firewood sealed in the original packaging (minimum treatment temperature must be 160°f for 75 minutes).
  • Outdoor charcoal grill is provided nearby. Hot coals must be extinguished at departure.
  • Public restroom building provides flush toilets and heated showers. Do not leave any personal items inside the shower house when not in use.
  • Fire extinguishers are located on the outside of cabins . . .
  • Patrons are responsible for emptying the trash. Trash bags are available at the bottom of the trash can.
  • Thermostat may be adjusted to comfort level.
  • Turn the lights off when you are not at your cabin.
  • Rental boats can be reserved hourly during regular operating hours.
  • Prior to departure renter must:
    • Damp wipe table, and refrigerator;
    • Sweep floors including under the beds and table;
    • Check under the beds and under the mattresses for any lost items.
    • Empty trash and recycling into appropriate receptacles. Dumpster and recycling bins are available near the shower house.
    • Turn the refrigerator off and leave the door ajar.
    • Pick up litter around outside of cabin and at your cabin’s picnic spot.
  • All personal items must be removed at departure.
  • Turn your key in at the office when you are ready to depart. In the event of an emergency departure, drop your key in the drop box.
4-Bed Cabins

Located on the public access side of the lake, five 4-bed cabins are available for overnight rentals.

Cabins: 1, 2, 3, 7, and 11

Amenities:

  • Central Bathhouse with flush toilets, showers, and potable water
  • Electricity
  • Wall-mounted gas furnace
  • Refrigerator
  • Sleep 5

Cabin 12

Formerly the boathouse, cabin 12 is secluded on the far side of the lake.

Amenities:

  • Contains a kitchen with refrigerator, oven, and microwave
  • Electricity
  • Attached deck overlooks lake
  • Pit toilets available nearby
  • Shower facilities available on public use side of lake
  • Sleeps 5

Penn State Campus Recreation Online Portal

Creating a Profile

If you are planning on paying online, you will need to create a profile prior to making your reservation. If you are a Penn State student, faculty, staff member, or retiree with a Penn State Access Account you can skip this step and go straight to Paying your Invoice.

  • Go to pennstatecampusrec.org and click the “Sign Up” link in the top right corner
  • Fill out the form and click “Register”
  • The system will send you an email to confirm your registration and activate your account
    • Click the link to activate your account
    • You should see a screen that says something to the effect of “Congratulations your account is now active”
  • If you receive an error that says “Please Correct Following: [your email address] already has an account” please email recmembership@psu.edu to have online access tied to your existing account

Paying your Invoice

  • Go to pennstatecampusrec.org and click the “Log In” link in the top right corner
  • Log in using your username and password (if you are using a Penn State Access Account click the blue bar to enter your log in information)
  • Click on your username/photo in the top right corner
  • Select “Profile”
  • Select “Invoices” on the menu on the left side of the screen
  • Select “Unpaid” to sort your invoices if needed
  • Push the “Pay” button on the invoice you with to apply a payment to
  • This will bring up a screen similar to most online shopping carts payment screen
  • Fill in the appropriate information and press “Continue”
  • Be sure to click through the full process until you receive a payment confirmation
  • You should receive an email indicating that your invoice was paid, and it will also show as paid back on the Invoices screen
