Group Rental Facilities at Stone Valley

Whether you are searching for a spot to have a family gathering for the day or a group retreat, our lodge or pavilion can help meet your needs. Reservations are available for University groups, non-University groups, and individuals.

Civil Engineering Lodge

The Civil Engineering Lodge provides accommodations for various group events including conferences, workshops, retreats, and meetings. The lodge can accommodate 80 people banquet-style with tables and chairs, although 40 is ideal for groups that want to have the option of non-banquet-style seating or the ability to move around the space. A spacious wrap-around porch offers a gorgeous view of the surrounding property.

  • The Civil Engineering Lodge is available for day retreats year-round.

    • It will be closed during the University’s Winter Holiday.

  • The Civil Engineering Lodge is available for overnight retreats from April 1 through October 31.

Lodge Cabins

Overnight accommodations at the lodge are only available from April 1 through October 31. Use of the cabins is not included with the lodge rental. 12 cabins are available for rental, each including accommodations for six guests. Please note these cabins are sleeping cabins only. They do not contain heat, electricity or any other furnishings.

Additional Costs & Information

  • Arrival and departure times are determined by the group’s needs

  • A four-hour minimum charge applies at all times

  • Special Event Rates apply for any group of 50 or more

  • Staffing charges will be added to all rentals and can range from $10-$30 per hour depending on the time of the rental

  • Quiet hours are from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.

  • Refunds will not be issued to anyone asked to leave due to rules violations.

  • Guests not spending the night at SVRA are allowed during daylight hours but must vacate the premises during quiet hours (9pm to 8am) unless prior arrangements have been made.

  • Cleaning charges may be assessed to any patron who checks out prior to cleaning the cabin.

  • Damage, or theft of Campus Recreation property will be charged to the registered customer.

  • Alcohol is prohibited.

  • Smoking is prohibited.

  • Vehicle parking is restricted to the paved parking lot at the lodge.

    • Vehicles are prohibited from driving on the lawn to cabins and restroom buildings.

    • Dependent upon weather conditions, overflow parking may be available on the hill behind the dumpster.

  • Rental activities are limited to the CE lodge, restroom buildings, CE cabins, and grounds immediately surrounding these buildings unless stated otherwise in the rental contract.

  • Cabin occupancy is limited to 6 guests each.

  • No overnight guests permitted in the CE lodge.

  • CE cabins contain twin bunk beds with mattresses, bedding is not provided.

  • Rental group has access to restrooms, main room and side room inside the CE lodge.

  • Access to the kitchen for cooking of any kind is prohibited.

  • Rental groups must bring their own cooking and eating utensils, and dinnerware.

  • Do not use tacks, staples, duct tape or any other potentially damaging items to hang personal items.

    • You may use masking tape or painters’ tape only.

    • All tape must be removed prior to departure.

  • Empty the trash during your stay. Extra bags are stored in the pantry of the kitchen.

  • Thermostat in lodge may be adjusted to comfort level

  • Tables and chairs may be arranged or rearranged for dining or meeting activities. Unless other arrangements have been made, all tables and chairs must be returned to the storage closet.

  • Lawn chairs may be arranged for group’s use but must be returned to the front porch at departure.

  • Volleyball and other lawn games are available at the lodge. Recreation equipment must be returned indoors prior to departure.

  • Two restroom buildings provide flush toilets and heated showers. Groups must remove personal clothing and toiletries at departure.

  • Prior to departure rental groups must:

    • Damp wipe kitchen counters, and refrigerator

    • Sweep floors throughout the lodge, mop if necessary

    • Empty trash and recycling into appropriate receptacles

    • Pick up litter outside

    • Sweep cabins, including under the beds

    • Check under the beds and mattresses for any lost items

  • All personal items must be removed at departure.

  • Rental boats may be reserved in advance for groups. Group boating reservations will require a safety boat at an additional cost.

  • Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Policies:

    • University prohibits the use, sale or possession of any illegal drugs on their premises. All violators will be prosecuted.

    • University prohibits the use, sale or possession of any alcoholic beverages on University property.

    • The use of tobacco, in any form, is prohibited on all University property, indoors or out.

    • Intoxicated persons are not allowed on University property.

    • Any person(s) found to be in violation of the drug, alcohol, or tobacco policies listed here may be physically removed from the University premises.

  • Organization manager, Representatives and/or Coaches must supervise organization-occupied shower houses and multi-occupant restrooms. Managers, Representatives and/or Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their organization’s participants at all times while on University premises, including in shower houses and multi-occupant restrooms.

  • No weapons on University premises except in accordance with the Weapons and Hunting section of the SVRA Rules and Regulations.

  • Campus Recreation is not responsible for any lost or stolen personal property.

  • No storage of equipment on university premises outside of designated event times unless approved ahead of time by Campus Recreation. Such storage may incur additional fees.

 

Mineral Industries Pavilion

The Mineral Industries Pavilion is available for rental from April through October and provides covered seating for groups as large as 80. Additional seating is available in the surrounding picnic area. The Pavilion is only available by reservation.

  • Rental activities are limited to the pavilion, and grounds immediately surrounding it unless stated otherwise in the rental contract. Public restrooms are available nearby.

  • Vehicle parking is restricted to the main parking lot. Vehicles are prohibited from driving on the lawn in the picnic area.

  • Pavilion occupancy is limited and cannot be exceeded unless prior arrangements were made.

  • Nearby picnic tables:

    • May be utilized on a first come, first serve basis.

    • May not be moved.

  • Rental groups must provide all equipment and supplies except picnic tables and charcoal grills.

  • The renter is responsible for removing trash to the dumpster.

  • Tacks, staples, duct tape or any other potentially damaging attachment mechanisms may not be used to hang items or decorations.

    • Patrons may use masking tape or painters’ tape only.

    • Tape must be removed prior to departure.

  • Rental boats may be reserved in advance for groups. Group boating reservations will require a safety boat at an additional cost.

How to Reserve

Stone Valley's Group Rental Facilities offer the perfect space for your group or family to gather. Plan ahead to secure your rental space.

  • Advanced reservations are required

  • Penn State departments, student organizations, and students can reserve up to one year in advance

  • Individuals can reserve up to six months in advance

  • All cancellations are subject to the terms found in your rental contract.
Payments

Payments

Payments are accepted by credit card only. University Departments and Official Penn State Student Organizations may pay utilizing the standard methods of payment for your department or organization.

Paying your Invoice

If you are planning on paying online, you will need to create a profile prior to making your reservation. If you are a Penn State student, faculty, staff member, or retiree with a Penn State Access Account you can skip this step and go straight to Paying your Invoice.

  • Creating a Profile
    • Go to https://pennstatecampusrec.org and click the “Sign Up” link in the top right corner
    • Fill out the form and click “Register”
    • The system will send you an email to confirm your registration and activate your account
      • Click the link to activate your account
      • You should see a screen that says something to the effect of “Congratulations your account is now active”
        • If you receive an error that says “Please Correct Following: [your email address] already has an account” please email recmembership@psu.edu to have online access tied to your existing account
           
  • Paying your Invoice
    • Go to https://pennstatecampusrec.org and click the “Log In” link in the top right corner
    • Log in using your username and password (if you are using a Penn State Access Account click the blue bar to enter your log in information)
    • Click on your username/photo in the top right corner
    • Select “Profile”
    • Select “Invoices” on the menu on the left side of the screen
    • Select “Unpaid” to sort your invoices if needed
    • Push the “Pay” button on the invoice you with to apply a payment to
    • This will bring up a screen similar to most online shopping carts payment screen
    • Fill in the appropriate information and press “Continue”
    • Be sure to click through the full process until you receive a payment confirmation
      • You should receive an email indicating that your invoice was paid, and it will also show as paid back on the Invoices screen
